A Merry Breakfast Tradition

by Alexandra on December 25, 2010

Christmas morning is always filled with sticky buns in my family. There is not much better than gooey buns before the present extravaganza.

The best part about this recipe is that the dough can be refrigerated over night, so no mess to clean up first thing in the morning.

Cinnamon Sticky Buns (adapted from Oprah)

  • White bread mix (we use Krusteaz Country White)
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 and 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • chopped nuts (optional)

1. Prepare bread mix according to the box. Add grated orange zest. Allow the dough to rise once.
2. Melt butter over low heat. Pour into a circular baking dish. Add brown sugar, honey and corn syrup, mix well. Top mixture with nuts.

3. Roll out dough into a 12″x18″ rectangle. Sprinkle evenly with cinnamon and brown sugar.
4. Roll evenly into a log and cut into 1″ rounds (should make approximately 12 buns).

5. Space buns evenly in the pan and refrigerated over night.
6. Preheat oven to 375F and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
7. Chase one reindog away from the presents.

8. Devour.

Happy Holidays everyone!

We have the same tradition. Only our cinnamon rolls come out of a tube and my brother and I viciously fight over the center roll. He is now 6 foot 4 and about 230 pounds so I haven’t had a center roll since I was 15… Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, my dear! We often do sticky buns or cinnamon rolls of some sort for one of the multiple brunches we have… fabulous!

Merry Christmas! Those sticky buns look amazing!! Our family tradition is usually Challah bread french toast, but i’m not sure what happened to it this year!

It seems so many people do sticky buns or cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast. I think I need to start a tradition like this. We had eggs and biscuits!! Good, but not the same as cinnamon rolls….. :)
Hope your Christmas was fantastic!

Happy Holidays to you too Alex! We should make a 2011 resolution to get together once the holiday madness is behind us!
