Serendipity {Giveaway}

by Alexandra on February 12, 2012

Ser-en-dip-i-ty (noun): an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident; good fortune

My weekend was filled with serendipity and I’m sharing some love for one serendipitous reader. I traveled to Charlottesville on Saturday for the first Virginia is For Bloggers meet up. Sarah was so great about organizing everything and scored us a great table to enjoy lunch at Feast!. I love the selection of Virginia grown produce and fun specialty foods. Many Christmas presents were purchased there. It was so wonderful to be with a group of women with common interests and who were all so welcoming. As the thought of moving to a new city becomes closer to reality, this was exactly what I needed to feel confident about finding friends wherever life takes me.

(Thanks to Kath for the picture!)

Did I mention Brittany, Lauren, and Sarah brought treats for us? Heady Goo Balls, Gearheart’s chocolates, and homemade peanut butter. A whole lot of yum. Everyone should have a food blogger friend just for the treats.

There was one new to me shop at the Main Street Market - The Spice Diva. When a store’s slogan is “Make life delicious,” how could one not fall in love? This store has the most incredible selection of herbs, spices, salt, sugar, and tea.

Phyllis and her husband were so welcoming to us and I was sure to pick up some goodies to bring back. Orange ginger tea, star anise, and Himalayan pink sea salt, accompanied by two Gold Rush apples from Feast.

Now, on to the giveaway. The wonderful people at Chobani are offering a sweet giveaway with a whole lot of good. One reader will win a case of their new flavors! That means four apple cinnamon, four blood orange, and four passion fruit yogurts.

I’m obsessed with the passion fruit. It reminds me of eating pavlova with fresh passion fruit while I was in Australia. This giveaway is open to US residents only, sorry Canadians – the new flavors are coming your way soon! To enter:

  1. Leave a comment telling me about a serendipitous moment in your life.
  2. Tweet about this giveaway tagging Chobani (@Chobani) and myself (@ieatasphalt), then leave another comment.

Open for entries through February 16th (my half-Birthday!).

Thank you to Chobani for sending me a free case of yogurt as well!

This may be a little mundane, but my serendipitous moment happened a few weeks ago when I was headed to an hour away for a farm tour. We’d never been to the area, got lost, and must have taken what seemed like every wrong turn possible. But, all our wrong turns later, we finally pull over to see if our phones have service and we can call for directions, and lo and behold, there the farm is a little up the road. We got to where we wanted to go, even if it was by accident! :)

One serendipitous moment in my life was meeting my husband on a blind date. Ironically our fathers had worked together in a 3 person department at a large company when we were babies. They had worked side by side and talked about how they had toddlers at home, and about 18 years later, we met through college friends who set us up. It was meant to be.

i think a serendipitous moment was meeting my boyfriend of 2 years now… we are from the same city, live in neighborhoods right across the street from eachother, went to the same high school, have a ton of mutual friends, but never met until a random day on accident in college. we have been together for 2 years now and cant imagine my life without him now!

I bought tickets off craigslist to a concert, and met up with the guy selling them at the grocery store since I didn’t want to go over to his house. He was so cute and we kept talking and I walked with him to his car even though mine was in the opposite direction! The day after the concert, he texted me and asked how it was and we talked more and more… now we’ve been together for 2 years!

Anytime I realize the ways that friends/family who are from different parts of my life know each other from another life or work experience! This happens more than I ever would have thought…

A moment for me was yesterday running in the snow with no one around – I felt like I was in a Nike commercial. It was beautiful – and I had the whole place to myself. :)

Meeting my husband was serendipitous! I didn’t mean to meet the love of my life when I did!

A few years ago my family and I were back visiting in a town we used to live in and I had tried to get in touch with an old friend but her cell number had changed. The last day of our trip we stopped at a new restaurant in town and as we were standing in line looking at the chalkboard menus over our heads, my friend walked up to me. She had stopped in to get a to-go order. In was a perfect moment.

My ultimate serendipitous moment in life…the realization that Clemson University was not just and agricultural/engineering centered college. Years ago, I was applying to colleges, and being a South Carolinian and following 3 generations of Clemson grads, Clemson was the perfect backup. Sewanee, Davidson, and Vanderbilt topped my list. During the application process, they ask you what you would choose as a major. I scrolled through tons of options. Then I stumbled across an odd one. I was looking for art or graphic design, and I knew they didn’t have anything along those lines. Low and behold, I discovered that they had one of the top Graphic Communications programs in the country. The college that I originally intended to be my backup school, was the perfect place for me. I was a 4th generation graduate, and now I have a great job as Print/Web Production Coordinator, all because I did a little bit of research. After that, I’ve had a lot of good luck…I think I made the right choice!

A recent serendipitous moment came for me when I sat next to a woman on an airplane, found out we worked in the same industry, had a great conversation with her, followed-up, and now I’ve been working at her company for almost two years!
