Marathon Training

It is May and that means my half-marathon is six months away! With plenty of time to prepare myself and work towards a respectable time, this is my training log. I found a program through Runners World that I like and is easy to follow. My goal is to maintain slightly below 10 minute mile pace and finish 13.1 miles in 2 hours flat. If I ever figure out a high-tech GPS calculation of my runs I’ll be sure to post that as well.

May

  • 5/1: 1 hour Pilates class (stretch people!)
  • 5/4: 4 x 10 minute miles
  • 5/5: 5 x 10.5 minute miles
  • 5/6: 4 x 10 minute miles + 1 mile warm-up walk + 10 min Pilates
  • 5/12: 4 x 10 minute miles
  • 5/15: unknown distance, ~2 hours
  • 5/17: 5.8 miles in 1 hour 12min
  • 5/20: 5.51 miles in 1 hour 12min + push-up challenge + 10min abs
  • 5/23: 3.6 mile trail run in 43 minutes (the hills = killer)
  • 5/25: 4.2 miles in 55 min + “The Core” with 5lb weights + push-up challenge
  • 5/26: 3.86 miles in 48 minutes
  • 5/28: 4.9 miles in 1 hour 8 min
  • 5/29: 1 mile (to calibrate Nike+) + 1 hour Pilates
  • 5/31: 4.8 miles in 1 hour 15 min

June

  • 6/4: 4.2 miles in 1 hour 13 min + “The Core”
  • 6/7: 3.36 miles in 42 min (return home with stress fractured foot)
  • 6/9: 1 hour spin class + 15 min abs
  • 6/18: 30 min on elliptical + 1.3 mile jog to and from gym + 15 min abs
  • 6/22: 30 min on elliptical + 15 min abs + 20 push-ups
  • 6/29: 1 hour spin class

July

  • 7/6:  10 minutes on elliptical + 1 hour spin class
  • 7/11: 2.34 miles in 46 min
  • 7/13: 3.29 miles in 48 min
  • 7/15: 2. 19 miles in 34 min
  • 7/17: 4.11 miles in 49 min
  • 7/18: 2.48 miles in 31 min
  • 7/21: 2.85 miles in 37 min
  • 7/25: 5.8 miles in 1 hour 7 min
